What a weekend for Team Thompson Racing at the Quirindi Showground for the Quirindi Long Track Grand Prix.![]()

Starting off with 1,200kms round trip we hit the road ... leaving Adrianna Lea Thompson to look after the kids for the weekend, thanks babe! 😊![]()

This was the first time our team had ever raced at the track, and also the first time both Adam and Krys Gumirato had raced there, so it was always going to be a weekend of learning, adapting, and chasing setup from the moment we rolled out.![]()

There were eight sidecars entered overall, and we were one of only two 600cc outfits in the field, with the rest of the competition aboard 1000cc dirt track sidecars. We knew we were up against it on horsepower, so the goal was to ride smart, improve every time we went out, and try to work our way into the A Final.![]()

From the very first practice session, the track showed plenty of speed but also kept everyone guessing. It was fast and fun, but a little slick in places, and with it being our first time there, we were working hard to find the right setup and gearing. Even in practice, it was obvious this track was going to keep changing all day.![]()

A massive credit goes to Tamworth Motorcycle Club and Gunnedah MCC for putting on an awesome event. The meeting was well run, the atmosphere was great, and it was a top weekend of racing.![]()

Practice: Strong first hit-out. Fast track, a little slick in places, and we were working on setup and gearing while learning the track.![]()
Race 1: 3rd place![]()
Race 2: 4th place![]()
Race 3: 3rd place![]()
B Final / Repechage: 2nd place![]()
Overall Result: 5th overall ... not too bad for the 1st time there!![]()

We came out strong in Race 1, with Krys doing a great job on the side and helping us bring home 3rd place. We followed that up with 4th in Race 2 and another 3rd in Race 3, which put us into the Repechage.![]()

In the Repechage, we got an awesome start, made it out of the gate in first, and led into the first corner. Unfortunately, one of the 1000cc outfits got past us, and we finished 2nd, which left us 5th overall for the weekend — just one place short of making the A Final.![]()

To be honest, that was disappointing. Our main goal for the weekend was to make the A Final, and to miss out by just one position hurt. Especially with only four bikes making the A Final this year, compared to five last year, it made it even tougher.![]()

But at the same time, there’s a lot to be proud of.![]()
![]()
The track changed every single time we went out. Practice was different to Race 1, Race 1 was different to Race 2, Race 2 changed again for Race 3, and the Repechage was another new challenge altogether. At times the surface got slick where the dirt wore away, and at other times there was so much dirt on top that the bike was moving around everywhere.![]()

Considering the horsepower difference, we felt we did a really solid job holding our own against the bigger bikes. We learnt a lot, adapted all day, and gave ourselves a strong base for when we head back there again.![]()

We’ll definitely be back, and we already can’t wait for next year.![]()

Next up for us is the junior team, heading to Mildura for the 2026 Australian Junior Speedway Sidecar Titles, so make sure you keep an eye on that and come support the team at the next one.![]()
